WiDS Speaker Profile
A WiDS Junior Speaker identifies as a woman, with proven data science expertise and an ability to present research, tools, or models used in data science and AI for business or academia.
WiDS Junior Speaker Application Criteria
- Identify herself as a woman
- Younger than 35 years old
- Fluent in English and willing to talk in front of 400+ people
- Has less than 5 years of working experience and/or has not completed her Ph.D. before 2017
- Works in fields related to Data Science in academia or business

Talk Session Formats
Length: 15 mins + 5 mins Q&A
We are looking for proposals in the following areas:
- Research using Data Science/AI/Computational methods
- Tackling social and environmental challenges using data science
- Newly developed methods/languages/tools
- Smart cities, and urban development with data
- Data Science in business (e.g.: product development, BI)
Topic Difficulty Level
WiDS attracts a wide-range audience of data science practitioners, so we recommend preparing your talk to be beginner-friendly/intermediate.
Beginner: These sessions help attendees learn the fundamentals of a subject area.
Intermediate: These sessions help attendees increase their knowledge of a subject area.
Submission Guidelines
Title Your title should grab the interest of attendees and concisely tell attendees what your session is about.
Short Abstract The short abstract must be a maximum of 250 words. Ensure your abstract is succinct and speaks to both the topic and context of your presentation. This abstract will be used on an online speaker page and other online marketing platforms. The description must also explain what the attendees will learn from your presentation.
Extended Abstract The extended abstract must be between 1-2 pages, including figures and references (if applicable). Explain the key message of your talk, its findings, and its structures. Be advised that the speaker committee reserves the right to reject any talk at any time, if the presentation does not match the abstract and stated intent.
Speaker Bio Introduce yourself in a maximum of 200 words, this intro will be used on an online speaker page.
